The 2028 Square Dance Cruise
7 Night Cruise to Shetland and the Norwegian Fjords
sailing from Southampton, Saturday 17th June, at 4pm.

We are pleased to offer the opportunity to visit one of Scotland's most northern island and see the beauty and grandeur of the Fjords on the coastline of Norway, stopping to explore 3 of Norway's coastal towns, all while enjoying the first class entertainment and opulence of a modern cruise ship ... AND Square Dance at the many sessions we also have planned for you. Although we've visited Norway a couple of times before, all four ports are new places for us to explore.

All the towns we're visiting are within walking distance of their centres. At some you step off the ship directly into town, at others there is a 25 minute walk (generally with the option of shuttle buses). You don't have to sign up for an excursion, you just get off, and indeed back on, when you like.

For the first time we are on the MSC Meraviglia, shown here, which is slightly smaller than the Virtuosa we've sailed on before (about 20% fewer passengers), but with most of the facilities we have enjoyed ... it even has a SportPlex. Launched in 2017 it has everything you'd expect on a modern cruis ship.
More information, photos and floor plans can be found here.

As we said, during the cruise you will visit 4 ports and have the opportunity to Square Dance, as well as observe dramatic landscapes as follows:

  • 17th June: departing from Southampton at 4pm - no dancing, just settling in and enjoying the ship's entertainment.
  • 18th June: day at sea - with a morning and afternoon dance and an evening of MSC's entertainment.
  • 19th June: Lerwick, Shetland, arriving at 7am and leaving at 3pm - a chance to visit this quaint Scottish island, with the option to attend an afternoon dance before the evening of the ship's entertainment.
  • 20th June: Vik i Sogn, arriving at 8am and leaving at 6pm - situated far inland in the deepest Fjord in Norway, this was once a Viking settlemnt and offers a great deal of insight into their lives, with the option to attend an afternoon dance before enjoying another evening onboard.
  • 21st June: Nordfjordeid arriving at 7am and leaving at 5pm - standing near the entrance to the Fjord, it is another Viking settlement with related history but also offers the opportunity to visit the high-sided Fjord near Hellsylt and Geiranger. As many may wish to take excursions at this port, there will be no dance session, allowing plenty of time and the opportunity to relax and enjoy the ship (though we are likely to have a 'silent' dance late in the evening).
  • 22nd June: Sandnes, arriving at 9am and leaving at 6pm - a chance to visit a small Norwegian coastal village, or travel the 15km to Stavanger, with a dance later in the afteroon before enjoying the ship's evening entertainment.
  • 23rd June: day at sea - a bit of a rest for the morning and a chance to recharge your batteries before our final dance session in the afternoon and enjoy your last night on board.
  • 24th June: arriving in Southampton at 7am - as we are normally given the option of when our group dissembarks, we should be off the ship by 8am, ready to head for our homes.

Full details of the itinerary and links detailing each port can be found by clicking here, though you will need to look down the list to find details for our cruise (on the 17th June, 2028).

As outlined above, adding to the normal Cruise ship entertainment, Kevin Lovell will be calling a mixture of MS-2025 (the Mainstream program we use on Thursday nights in MK, including the moves moved to Plus in September 2026), New-Plus (including the 8 moves added in September 2026), and Advanced dance sessions during the week. We hope each will be 2-2.5 hours, and most will be a mix of all levels, starting or finishing with a focus on Advanced. That is about 15 hours of dancing to supplement your cruise with at least half of the time available to all of the dancers who join us.

On a couple of evenings we will also do some 'silent' dancing. In the past we've found an area to have a couple of squares where we dance wearing headphones so we are not disturbing other passengers. Intended as a 'bit of fun', they've become a favourite among many of those who've cruised with us before.

All the sessions are being scheduled to minimise the impact on your enjoyment of the cruise itself. Where possible we will have them while at sea. Two will be on the first day, one between breakfast and lunch, and one between lunch and dinner, with a single session in the afternoon on the last day. The other 3 will be late in the afternoons when visiting ports allowing time to explore, yet early enough to relax and change before dinner at around 8pm, and see the evening theatre show, etc.

All 6+ sessions will be available to you for just £40 for advanced capable dancers, or £35 for others (as there will be several tips they are not able to dance). These will be collected along with the balance of the cruise cost in March 2028.

Speaking of which ... We are very pleased to be able to confirm we have arranged a discount on the cruise price you pay... one which includes full board (and en-suite cabin and all meals, plus snacks) with the upgrade to the Fantastica experience, and including the Premium Extra Drinks Package offering alcoholic drinks (up to €14 in value) as well as hot and cold drinks and water, AND which includes gratuities, room service breakfasts and the standard evening shows. At the time we negotiated the prices, this was a discount of over £250 on the standard early booking prices per cabin (once you include all the benefits and extras we have included).

The prices we are able to offer are:

  • £1,029 for an Interior Cabin
  • £1,319 for a Balcony Cabin

These prices are held for us till the end of 2026
after which it will depend on availability and other factors which could see them raise to £1,059 / £1,349 (or more).

All of these prices are for a shared cabin, be it with a double bed or with twin beds (both configurations available in all cabins).
If you desire a single occupancy, this may be possible, but we are now being charged a 50% surcharge (still less than their standard, but dissapointing), but we are VERY limited on how many we can book - once our allocation has gone, singles will attract a significantly higher surcharge, and are still subject to negotiation with MSC..

We are also happy for non-dancers to come along too, be they a non dancing partner or friend sharing the cabin. However, as we have a limited number of cabins we are not able to include non-dancers having their own cabin (at least not until later in 2026) as we feel we must prioritise those involved in the activity.

As we indicated above, regardless of which cabin you choose, you will get:

  • A comfortable, well appointed, en-suite cabins.
  • All of your meals included, with our group sitting together for the evening meal in their early seating.
  • Their 'Premium Extra Drinks Package' which gives you alcoholic drinks, house wines, virgin cocktails, sodas, juices and soft drinks, and classic hot drinks, in fact nearly everything up to €14 bar value. More details of this are available here
  • Entry to the standard West End Style Theatre shows each evening.
  • Access to the sports facilities, pool and gym
  • The option of room service (though there would be a surcharge for it's use in the evening, but free delivery of breakfast).

If you would like to join us on this Cruise Adventure, we will need you to complete a booking form which can be found here.
The completed form must then be sent to us... Our preference is that you scan or take a photo of it and email it to us at info@allsquare.uk If this is not possible please contact us at the same email address or on 07796695575.

We will also require TWO £50 per person deposits, one when you book and another in June 2027. As this is passed on to MSC to secure the cabin and then retained even if the booking is cancelled, the paid deposit is non-refundable (unless the cruise is cancelled) - you will NOT need to pay the second installment if you cancel before it is due.
When you send us your booking form we will provide details of the bank account to which you should send the deposit - though it is the same as we've used for previous cruises if you still have it. If you have any problem, or wish to pay in Euros or USD please let us know as we are able to accept both currencies.

The cruise balance and dance fee will need to be paid to us in March 2028.
Up to this time, should you wish to cancel, all moneies you have given us, except paid deposits, will be returned to you.
After the end of March 2028, the following will be retained based on MSC's standard cancellation policy:
    - Up to the end of May, 2027: the initial deposit (£50pp)
    - Up to the end of 2027: the full deposit (£100pp)
    - Up to the end of March 2028: £125pp
    - Up to the 15th April 2028: 25% of the total
    - Up to the 7th May 2028: 40% of the total
    - Up to the end of May 2028: 60% of the total
    - Up to the 6th June 20288: 80% of the total
100% thereafter
